You have several choices for graphics cards for gaming at the sub $200 price level. None of these cards will deliver the best performance while gaming, but they are all capable of playing the newest video game titles on the market currently, though at significantly reduced levels of detail.

1. XFX 7900 GS Extreme

The 7900 GS from XFX is one of the best graphics cards in this price range. This card is SLI capable and can play games very well considering the price. This card out performs higher priced competition form ATI in the X1800 GTO. If you are on a tight budget, this is one of the best gaming cards to be found under $200.

2. 3D Fuzion GeForce 7600 GS Video Card

This card can be had for under $100 if you shop around. It performs surprisingly well considering some brands can be had for right at $90. If you are looking for a budget card to go with a lower end PCI Express gaming PC, graphics cards don't get much cheaper than this.

3. ATI ASUS X1300PRO

This card doesn't bring gobs of raw performance to the table, but it is a very good option for a budget media center PC or for those who only game casually and don't need maxed out graphics.

4. Sapphire ATI X1600PRO Graphics Card

Right up from the X1300 Pro in the ATI line is the X1600 Pro. This card is still commonly found on lower end computers from some of the biggest manufacturers out there. It will play PC games, but don't expect to run titles like FEAR and Oblivion at anywhere near maxed out graphics levels. This is also a good option for a media center PC.

5. Sapphire ATI X1800GTO

You have to do some shopping to find this card under $200, but it can be done. This is a much better option in the sub $200 range for fans of ATI's products. That said if you have no brand loyalty, the NVIDIA 7600 GT I reviewed from XFX walked all over the X1800 GTO. My recommendation is to get the 7600 GT unless you get a real bargain on the X1800 GTO.

6. EVGA 7300 GS PCI-E Graphics Card

The 7600 GS is a card that is cheap and can play PC games for those with passing interest in them. If your idea of PC gaming is The Sims, this card may be just what you are looking for. If you are building up a media center PC, this card is more in its element for that task.

7. XFX Nvidia 7600 GT XXX Video Card

The performance that XFX wrought from the NVIDIA 7600 GT in the XXX edition is amazing. This little card is a fantastic performer for gaming and requires no PCI Express power dongle, which is a big plus for some users. It is also a great card for media center use as well. Out of all of the graphics cards on this list, the best bang for your buck is likely to be the XFX 7600 GT XXX.

8. BFG 6600GT OC AGP Video Card

Those of you out there still running AGP based systems, this is one of the few remaining graphics cards for you to choose from. This is also one of the best performing cards for the AGP bus.
