ATI X1900 CrossFire Edition

About.com Rating five out of Five

By Shane McGlaun, About.com

Quake 4

The final gaming test I ran on the ATI X1900 CrossFire Edition was with Quake 4. Benchmark ownage didn't stop with Fear and 3DMark 06, the ATI X1900 CrossFire Edition again recorded a best score to date in this benchmark. running at 1024 x 768 with details set to ultra, 4x AA and 8x AF resulted in an awesome 128.8 FPS average frame rate. Being that the ATI X1900 CrossFire Edition is one of the best performing graphics card set ups around, I ran the benchmark again with the resolution turned up to 1920 x 1200 and recorded an average frame rate of 103.5 FPS with all other settings the same.

Final Thoughts on the ATI X1900 CrossFire Edition

Sure the ATI X1900 CrossFire Edition and the required slave card is one of the most expensive gaming graphics card platforms around, but it is also one of the best performing systems as well. Graphics cards adhere stringently to the "you get what you pay for" mantra. The only system that clearly performs better is Nvidia's 7950 GX2 based Quad SLI setup. Any gamer would be happy with an ATI X1900 CrossFire Edition rig on their desks, take my word for it. You can play any game currently out at pretty much maxed out settings.

At the end of the day, the ATI X1900 CrossFire Edition just flat performs better than every other graphics platform I have tested to date. However, my test of the mighty Nvidia 7950 GX2 in Quad SLI is still pending. We will soon see how X1900 CrossFire fares against the quad GPU beast from big green.
