Sound systems for desktop computers can cost a lot these days, and you typically can't find much quality under the $100 price range. However, the Altec Lansing VS4221 2.1 system offers good sound at a decent price. The bass and satellite speakers combine to offer a quality sound that could rival more expensive systems. It is a good and economically-smart buy.

Features of the Altec Lansing VS4221
- Affordably good sound
The sound is not the greatest you will find in a 2.1 speaker set, but the fact that you can buy them on for $60 or under does count for something. The fact that there is no independent bass control for the powered subwoofer, however, doesn't. I was constantly tweaking my iTunes EQ from song to song as the bass was bordering on overwhelming for some songs, but less prevalent for others.
For the price range, this sound system is solid, offering far-reaching sounds from two simple, elegently designed speakers that will fit perfectly on any desktop.
Performance
This system works well for that which it is designed--watching movies and playing games on your PC. The sound quality is good, but also has a weak midrange. The system does provide quality overall sound, especially when you consider the price is under $100. It is suggested that you use an equalizer on your computer to ensure getting the best sound.
The remote control is a plus as to keep you from fumbling around with controls through the computer. However, if you lose the remote, that is what you will have to do because the speakers do not have any controls. Go here for complete speificaitons.
