The only real drawback to the Seagate FreeAgent Pro 750GB External Hard Drive is that it comes with e-SATA connectivity as an option and Seagate chose not to ship the drive with an e-SATA cable, at this price they should have sent the cable along too. Description
Guide Review - Seagate FreeAgent Pro 750GB External Hard DriveInside the flashy black enclosure of the Seagate FreeAgent Pro 750GB External Hard Drive, you will find one of Seagates internal 750GB SATA hard drives. The black metal chassis of the drive is highlighted by orange lights, which are bright and can be a distraction when working in a dark room. Dual connectivity modules are included with the Seagate FreeAgent Pro 750GB External Hard Drive, the one installed out of the box sports USB and e-SATA connectivity. An additional module sports a pair of FireWire 400 ports that allow you to connect to your PC is USB and e-SATA arent available. Both the USB and FireWire cables are included with the drive. No CDs or DVDs are included with the Seagate FreeAgent Pro 750GB External Hard Drive, the software is pre-installed on the drive and you install from there. I would prefer to see a hard copy back up as well since the information could be accidentally erased or deleted. The up side to this method with the software is that wherever you take the Seagate FreeAgent Pro 750GB External Hard Drive you will have the backup software with you. The software itself is easy to use and set up and has many options when it comes to backing up files from single documents to your entire PC. Another nice feature is the ability to save your PC settings and roll back to a previous version if needed. The software also saves multiple versions of documents you are working on to prevent accidental overwriting of your documents. Performance wise, there are faster drives out there, but the large storage capacity more than makes up for the slower speed. Sandra XIs removable storage benchmark gives the drive a combined index of 39198 and an endurance factor of 4.0. The file system benchmark shows a drive index of 28 MB/s and a random access time of 8ms. All the measurements here were done while connected via USB 2.0. Suggested Reading |
