The Bottom Line

The Dell Photo 964 Printer is a great multifunction printer that combines fax, scanner, card reader and printer into one small footprint device, all at a great price. While there are certainly faster printers and printers that produce higher quality images, the Dell Photo 964 Printer will be very appealing to users in the home or small office settings.

Guide Review - Dell Photo 964 Printer

Features of the Dell Photo 964 Printer

Fax Function

The Dell Photo 964 Printer has an internal 33.6Kbps fax modem allowing to to fax without your computer. One of the best features of the Dell Photo 964 Printer is the automatic document feeder that allows you to fax multiple page documents without needing to replace each sheet on the scanner bed.

Scanner Function

The document feeder also helps when you are scanning multiple page documents into your computer. The scanner resolution is 1200 x 2400 dpi. The Dell Photo 964 Printer does a good job scanning both photos and text documents.

Printing Function

The printer resolution of the Dell Photo 964 Printer is 1200 x 4800 dpi color and 600 x 600 dpi B&W. Dell claims a 26 page per minute B&W print speed and a 20 page per minute color print speed.

Dell Photo 964 Printer in Use

The print speeds were pretty on for my test unit for line art and text. However, when I printed an 8x10 photo, the print speed was very slow. It took more than 2 minutes to print the 8x10 image.

The LCD screen of the Dell Photo 964 Printer is nice and allows you to print and edit photos without using your computer. The scanner does a decent job of scanning images and an excellent job with text.

If you intend to use the Dell Photo 964 Printer for heavy photo printing beware, the images I printed with the 964 had a noticeable sepia like tint.

The multi-card reader built into the front to the 964 is great and easy to use and the 964 has a PictBridge USB slot as well.
