The new year is almost upon us so let’s have a look back at some of the top computer peripherals of 2006. From keyboards to graphics cards and more this list has the top products and some of the most interesting computer gear of 2006.

1. XFX 8800 GTX XXX Graphics Card

If you want the best graphics card available in 2006 the XFX 8800 GTX XXX is it. The NVIDIA G80 series graphics cards including the 8800 GTX are the first available DirectX 10 compatible graphics cards and also offer staggering performance in DirectX 9 current applications. If you want the best graphics card around, the XFX 8800 GTX XXX is it hands down.

2. XFX NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS Graphics Card

The little brother to the NVIDIA 8800 GTX is the bb00 GTS which shares most all of the same features with the GTX including DirectX 10 compatibility but has less stream processors and lower clock speeds. The 8800 GTS is still a fantastic performer and is easily better than any other card on the current market save its big brother the 8800 GTX. The best part is that the GTS is quite a bit cheaper than the GTX making this the lowest cost entry to DirectX 10 compatibility on the current market.

3. Logitech diNovo Edge Keyboard

If you want a keyboard that can do everything and do it well the Logitech diNovo Edge should be the only keyboard on your list. This is easily the best keyboard on the market currently and can do everything from gaming to offering the best typing feel I have tested. The Edge has replaced my purpose built gaming keyboard on my desktop and I have not looked back. If you want the best keyboard around shop no further.

4. Logitech MX Revolution Wireless Mouse

The Logitech MX Revolution is exactly what its name implies, a revolution in mouse design. The free-wheeling scroll wheel design seems so simple a change but it makes a huge difference in daily use. The only bad point about the mouse is that it’s not up to the rigors of hard core gaming. Casual gamers will find it useful but if your taste leans towards FPS titles you will need a second mouse. The MX Revolution is undoubtedly the best general use mouse ever made.

5. Razer Copperhead Gaming Mouse

If you are a serious gamer looking for a serious gaming mouse Razer has a fantastic gaming mouse called the Copperhead. With great drivers, on board memory and on-the-fly sensitivity adjustment the Copperhead is a serious gaming weapon. One of the best things about the Copperhead is that unlike many other gaming mice on the market the Copperhead uses an ambidextrous design.

6. Razer Barracuda AC1 Gaming Sound Card

If you are a serious PC gamer you have probably realized that onboard sound doesn’t really cut it when it comes to sound quality and especially positional sound quality. Razer has recently released the Barracuda AC1 sound card that supports DTS, Dolby Digital 5.1 and more as well as up to 7.1 surround sound. The AC1 also integrates SPDIF in and out as well as the Razer HD-DAI output for the Barracuda headphones. If you want fantastic sound quality this is the product for you.

7. Eizo CE240W 24" LCD Display

If you have the budget for the best LCD around the Eizo CE240W is it. This is far from a cheap display but the color reproduction and performance are simply the best I have tested. You can get bigger displays but you won’t find one that looks better than the CE240W. This is hands down the best gaming LCD I have tested to date.

8. Dell 3007WFP 30" LCD Display

If you want to game at 2560 x 1600 the Dell 30” 3007WFp is one of the only games in town. I am here to tell you that Oblivion at 2560 x 1600 is a surreal experience. Sure the color reproduction isn’t as good as the Eizo, but this display has a much higher resolution that the CE240W can muster.

9. Razer Barracuda HP-1 Headphones

If you either don’t want a full 5.1 surround sound speaker set or just don’t have the room in your home for one the Razer Barracuda HP-1 headphones are the best alternative around. These headphones aren’t quite as good as real 5.1 surround sound but they are very close and sound great. The HP-1 headphones also feature the Razer HD-DAI input, but will work with any sound card.

10. Olevia 542i 42" LCD HDTV

If your tastes in computer displays lean more towards multifunction devices like a nice big HDTV that can also double as a Pc display the Olevia 542i is a fantastic option. While the screen is large at 42” PC gamers used to normal PC LCD displays won’t care much for the lower resolution, even at HD TV resolutions. However, if you have been looking for more reason to justify buying a new HDTV, the Olevia 542i will work well as your PC display and is great for a media center computer.
