The Bottom Line

I have sat in lots of chairs and spent hours searching though office supply stores, sitting in chairs looking for a comfortable chair to support my back while working. I have bought many chairs and been unhappy with them after a few days of use. The Steelcase Leap is the first adjustable ergonomic chair I have used that was comfortable from day one and remained comfortable after weeks of use. The Leap is expensive, but if you have back pain after sitting for long periods it is worth the money. This is a fantastic computer chair for the home or office.

Guide Review - Steelcase Leap Ergonomic Task Chair

Steelcase makes a full line of office chairs as well as desks and other items. Today we are going to be looking at their Leap ergonomic chair. The Leap has a wealth of adjustability options with virtually all important aspects of the chair being adjustable. Note that several of the adjustment options are optional; my test chair had them all. You can adjust the common items on the Leap like seat height and recline as well as adjusting not so common controls like the seat depth. Adjusting the seat depth allows the chair to accommodate users of different leg lengths.

You can also adjust the upper back force which controls the amount of weight required to recline the chair. Lower back firmness is adjustable for ideal lumbar support and adjustable arms allow you to get comfortable and reduce strain on your shoulders. A small lever on the right side of the chair controls the back stop. This lets you decide if the chair reclines and how far back it can go. The front edge of the Leap is flexible to reduce pressure on the back of your legs as you move and work. The lumbar support height is adjustable to allow you to get back support right where you need it no matter your height.

In use the Leap is hands down the most comfortable chair I have ever used. I tend to get back and neck pain from working at my computer all day and when I moved from my old ergonomic chair to the Leap I noticed a change in the amount of soreness and stiffness I had after a long day of work. The Leap isn’t cheap with loaded models going in the $800-$900 range, but it is hard to put a price on being able to work without pain. If you are in the market for a quality ergonomic chair with lots of adjustability the Steelcase Leap is simply one of the best computer chairs around.
