Laptop Protection

Few would argue against the most important feature of a laptop case being to protect your laptop. The Skooba provides excellent protection, without greatly bulking the case up. This is done by using lots of small, air filled pockets RoadWired calls Air Square. With these little squares your laptop is literally riding on air. The pockets absorb the bumps and shocks of daily life on the go.

Laptop compatibility

RoadWired says the Skooba Satchel can hold most 17" laptops. My Acer TravelMate is a 15" laptop and it filled the laptop compartment up all the way. If you are using a 17" laptop, be sure to check that your laptop will fit.

Storage

We all have more than just out laptops to lug around. The Skooba Satchel has multiple pouches on it to allow you to carry your PDA, MP3 player and cell phones with you. The main compartment is separated into three areas. One for the laptop, a middle compartment and a third in the front of the main compartment separated by a divider. I found that the perfect place for my Logitech diNovo keyboard.

On the front of the bag is another compartment with a built in organizer for pens and pencils. A velcro closure pouch is also inside the front pouch and is ideal to secure cables, cell phones or your notebook mouse. One the side of the Skooba is also a stowable nylon pouch for holding your bottled water.

Comfort

A fully loaded laptop bag can be uncomfortable to carry and cause shoulder pain. The Skooba Satchel has a great strap with a thick area of padding featuring the Air Square just like those found inside the laptop section of the bag. The Air Square padding makes the shoulder strap comfortable and helps prevent it from digging into the shoulder during extended use. There is also a Velcro strap on the back of the Skooba Satchel to attach it to your carry-on bag. The complete bag only weighs 44 ounces.

I loaded the Skooba Satchel up with my Acer TravelMate 4404 WLMi, Logitech diNovo keyboard and my Logitech VX Revolution mouse. Everything fit with no issues at all, though short of pens and pencils I'm not sure much else would fit in the bag. With this being about as full as I could pack the Skooba Satchel, I set about my daily routine. For several weeks I carried the bag and used it daily.

I had no problems working out of the Skooba satchel at all. It was light and easy on the shoulder. When I didn't want to use the shoulder strap, the handles were comfortable as well. While I could carry a great deal more with me in the Tom Bihn Brain Bag, the Skooba Satchel was smaller and more convenient to use. The zippers are large, durable and easy to use making opening and closing the bag quick and easy. Short of wishing for more room a few times, I can find little fault in the Skooba Satchel.

If you are looking for the ultimate laptop case for carrying lots of stuff, you can find more suitable bags. However, if you are looking for a light laptop case with a decent amount of storage for accessories and other gadgets in a smaller more compact form, the RoadWired Skooba Satchel Laptop Case is hard to beat. The Skooba satchel is also one of the most comfortable laptop bags to carry I have used. If compact dimensions and comfort are your main goals, the Skooba Satchel is a great option.
