I have previously covered the top keyboards for PC gaming and decided to put together a list of the top keyboards for general computer use. Let’s face it there are lots of computer users out there that care nothing for computer gaming, yet still want a keyboard with good typing feel and lots of features. This list has many of the best keyboards around to help make your work or play more fun and more productive.
Hands down my favorite keyboard for general computer work is the Logitech diNovo Edge. This Bluetooth wireless keyboard has great typing feel and a compact design as well as fantastic battery life. It lacks a number pad so if you use the number pad frequently you might want to shop elsewhere. The Edge has a built in touch pad to control your mouse and many more fantastic features. The diNovo Edge would make a fantastic media center keyboard.
Microsoft has gifted the Microsoft Wireless Entertainment Desktop 7000 with a tongue twister of a name. The Microsoft Wireless Entertainment Desktop 7000 is my second most favorite keyboard behind the diNovo Edge and shares many of the same features as the Edge. It has touch sensitive function keys as well as a touch sensitive area for controlling your mouse pointer. Naturally Microsoft tied the Microsoft Wireless Entertainment Desktop 7000 into Vista and XP Media Center tightly so it is a great choice for your media center. Typing feel is great as is battery life and a wireless mouse is included as well.
If you prefer to use a notebook computer rather than a desktop Logitech has your keyboard needs covered with the new Alto. This keyboard has a built in notebook elevator to make working on a portable PC more comfortable. The only real drawback to the Alto is that it is a full size keyboard making it more difficult to take with you on the go. It offers full size keys and a number pad that all have decent typing feel plus a built in USB hub. If you use a laptop at home or the office and you don’t hit the road with your computer too often the Alto is a great choice.
If you are a fan of Microsoft’s Ergonomic keyboards you should like the Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000. It has the split and curved design that you expect from Microsoft and good typing feel. The keyboard is wired and has a very attractive design. Lots of extra features are built into the keyboard making it a good option for users looking for a more comfortable ergonomic keyboard. Be warned there is a learning curve when you first use this type of keyboard.
The Logitech diNovo Media Desktop Laser is a great option for use with your media center, desktop or notebook computers. I actually take this keyboard with me on the road for use with my laptop. It has a very thin profile, great battery life and good typing feel. Mobile users this is a fantastic option that also includes a full size wireless number pad as well.
