The Bottom Line

At the end of the day the Ideazon MERC Gaming Keyboard is exactly what the name implies, a good gaming keyboard. The MERC falls short when it comes to daily use. The typing feel is spongy and does not give much tactile feedback. However, the MERC's gaming ability is excellent. To get both good gaming characteristics and good typing feel for daily use will require an additional keybord for most users.

  • Gaming prowess offset a bit due to poor typing feel for daily use.

Guide Review - Ideazon MERC Gaming Keyboard

Features of the MERC Gaming Keyboard

The MERC's best feature is the 34 key game pad attached to the left side of the keyboard. The keypad uses the Zboard's familiar butterfly style WASD layout and includes the "Q" and "E" keys as well, typically used for leaning or peering around corners in game.

The number keys placed above the movement keys are circular and arranged to make it easier to change weapons or other functions you map to the buttons. The MERC has labeled keys for core game functions like jump, crouch, reload, run/walk, voice and goals.

The MERC is powered by the Z Engine which allows you to change the profile and key mapping based on the game title you are playing. To make changing game profiles easier, the MERC also features a programmable chip built-in to sense the game being loaded and change to the correct configuration automatically.

Gaming with the Ideazon MERC

The MERC was made for gaming and poor typing feel aside, it frags with the best gaming keyboards around. The red WASD keys are large and even though the keyboard is not backlit, the directional keys are easy to find in the dark. The same can't be said for the other keys on the MERC and Ideazon would have been wise to spend a bit more and include backlighting. Changing weapons was fast and easy with the location of the number keys. Built for long gaming sessions, the MERC was comfortable for extended use. The MERC is very at home gaming, so if gaming is what you want the MERC will do it well.
