What’s the difference between active and passive noise canceling?

By

Definition: Active noise-canceling technology uses some kind of powered technology to block ambient noise, while passive noise canceling refers to the noise that is eliminated by non-powered means. Examples of active noise canceling technology include digital signal processing. Examples of passive noise canceling would be memory foam ear pads or noise-isolating ear tips. The two technologies are frequently mentioned in headphones.
