Unique Carry Position
The most interesting feature of the BBP Bags Hamptons Laptop Bag is the bum carry position. Normal backpacks sit in the mid back area and can be uncomfortable or down right painful when fully loaded. The BBP Hamptons bag puts the weight much lower, right above your rear end. This effectively takes the bulk of the pressure off of your mid back and places it on your hips and legs.
I have lingering back pain from time to time from too much football in my youth and when I load up a backpack like the Tom Bihn Brain Bag some days it causes some mid back pain. Carrying the Hamptons bag lower down on the rear alleviates some of that pressure on the mid back.
Color choices
BBP Bags has several different color Hamptons bags to choose form. A pure girly pink bag is available, as well as a red bag, a brown bag and a black bag. My review sample was black and has a safety orange color lining that provides great visibility.
Laptop Protection
The laptop compartment is padded with about 1/4" of foam on the bottom and sides of the compartment. Your laptop doesn't fit inside the main compartment on this bag, there is a zippered compartment on the back of the bag that the laptop fits into. The laptop compartment is lined in a soft velour material to minimize scratching when putting in or taking out your laptop.
Other Features
Inside the main compartment there is a mesh zippered pocket that would be a great place for smaller accessories for your mobile day. If you travel with a rolling carry-on bag frequently you will appreciate the handle pass through built into the rear of the bag that secures it for trecks through the hotel lobby or airport.
Under the front flap of the bag there is a pair of loop straps that can hold your umbrella or a newspaper. You might even be able to secure a camera tripod there. A number of other pouches and compartments are included as well as pen and pencil holders.
BBP Bags Hamptons Laptop Bag in Use
My favorite part about this bag is the bum carry position. The large pads on the back of the bag make it comfortable to use. The bag looks different and may be a bit too daring for some more conservative types, but the added comfort is well worth drawing a bit more attention to your laptop bag.
When you see the carry position of this bag, the first thing that pops to mind is does the bag bounce on your bum when you walk. The answer is no, it does not bounce when you walk. And BBP includes adjustable and removable waist and sternum straps to add more stability if you desire, though I found they were not needed.
If you get caught out in the rain, the added piece of mind the water resistant laptop zipper adds is great. I have seen several laptop bags covered in water protectant coatings that over look the zipper as an entry point for water. Thankfully, BBP didn't miss this crucial point.
Overall, I found the BBP Hamptons Laptop Bag to be one of my favorite bags to date. It is certainly the most comfortable bag fully loaded that I have tested to date. Plenty of storage space for your gadgets and gizmos as well as a wealth of laptop peripherals. If the bum carry position doesn't look like it is for you, you can also convert the bag into a standard messenger style or carry it by the built-in handle. At the end of the day, the BBP Bags Hamptons Laptop Bag is a superb laptop bag that you will want to check out if you suffer from any back pain with typical laptop bags.
