Definition: GHz is short for gigahertz. One gigahertz is one billion hertz. GHz is a common unit of measure for the speed of computer devices such as the CPU or central processing unit. When gigahertz is used to describe the speed of a computer processor (CPU) it equals 1000 MHz or megahertz.
