Definition: DLP stands for Digital Light Processing and the technology is used in many products currently such as projectors and projection TVs. DLP technology was developed by Texas Instruments and is licensed for use by a number of manufacturers.

DLP images are created by semiconductors using microscopic mirrors in a matrix, these semiconductors are called a DMD or Digital Micromirror Device. Each of the microscopic mirrors represents one pixel of the displayed image. The light from the projector bulb is passed through a red, green and blue color wheel to add color before hitting the DMD.
